Karen C. Johnson, MD, MPH, Endowed Professor of Women’s Health and Preventive Medicine at UTHSC and Co-Director of the TN-CTSI, was listed in the top 0.91% of 312,584 scholars worldwide who have written about obesity. Dr. Johnson, who is also professor and chair of Preventive Medicine in the College of Medicine, is currently the PI of the NHLBI-funded Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) in Memphis and Vice Chair of the National SPRINT Steering Committee. She is also the PI of the Look AHEAD weight loss study funded by NIDDK. Dr. Johnson is an investigator for the Women’s Health Initiative and was the PI of the Memphis site during the clinical trial phase. Csaba P. Kovesdy, MD, FASN, director of the Clinical Outcomes and Clinical Trials Program in Nephrology at UTHSC, was listed in the top 0.0043% of 92,440 published authors worldwide on chronic kidney failure. Dr. Kovesdy also serves as chief of the Nephrology Section at the Memphis VA Medical Center. His main research interests center on the epidemiology and outcomes of patients with pre-dialysis chronic kidney disease and ESRD. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed articles, as well as numerous abstracts and book chapters. He is one of six experts from around the world who have worked for the past five years on a data harmonization project chronicling the global burden of kidney disease. The project is part of a collaboration between the ISN, the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), and the European Renal Association (ERA), to develop consistent messaging about kidney disease worldwide.
