Dopico and Bukiya Named Associate Editors to New Journal

The Office of Research congratulates Drs. Alex Dopico and Anna Bukiya, Chair and Associate Professor, respectively, in the Department of Pharmacology, Addiction Science, and Toxicology, in the College of Medicine at UTHSC, on their appointment as Associate Editors of the newly launched journal, “Advances in Drug and Alcohol Research.”

The new publication, the official journal of the International Drug Abuse Research Society (IDARS), and the International Narcotics Research Conference (INRC), aims to bring together drug and alcohol abuse scientists and clinicians from across the globe to share and discuss the current state of knowledge, challenges, and the future of drug addiction that continues to be a global problem. The publication launched on April 1, 2021 on Frontiers Science News.

Drs. Dopico and Bukiya join several experts, including George Koob, Director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA); Syed Ali, Head of Neurochemistry, FDA; and Emmanuel Onaivi, Fullbright Scholar and Chief Editor.

Dr. Bukiya has been awarded by the NIAAA and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for her studies on the effects of alcohol and endocannabinoids on cerebral artery constriction. Dr. Dopico, who is also a UTHSC Distinguished Professor and Van Vleet Chair of Excellence, has spent over two decades researching the effects of alcohol on the brain, receiving an NIH Merit Award for his work.
