UTHSC Office of Research Names New Director of Scientific Writing

In order to better serve the research community, the Office of Research has named Kyle Johnson Moore, PhD, as the new Director of the Office of Scientific Writing as of January 2021. In this role, Dr. Johnson Moore will assist research faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students in the writing of successful research grants and scientific manuscripts.

Dr. Johnson Moore holds a doctorate in Biophysics and Genetics from the University of Colorado Health Science Center (now CU Anschutz Medical Campus) in Denver. Her career spans over two decades and includes a proven track record winning federal grants and writing a large number of scientific articles in top journals in the field of Virology.  She has published peer-reviewed conference proceedings, book chapters, and assisted collaborators in the development of software tools.

Dr. Johnson Moore served 15 years as Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). During her tenure there, she also served as director of the Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC) Genomic Analysis Core Facility and as chair of the University’s Institutional Biosafety Committee. Dr. Johnson Moore’s research accomplishments include securing funding as PI, Co-PI, or collaborator on grants totaling more than $3.7 million. While at UTEP, she established an externally funded research program focused on virus-host interactions involving intracellular organization, quality control, and antiviral defense mechanisms and their roles in the establishment of viral genome replication factories by Nodamura virus (NoV). During the 2019-20 academic year, she served as a visiting associate professor at Rhodes College before becoming involved in laboratory testing for SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19.

Kyle’s combined expertise in biomedical research and scientific writing will make her a strong asset to the UTHSC research community.”
